It is applied to electrical products, mainly based on the insulation of plastic. Considering the electrical properties, plastics can be roughly divided into three categories: the first ones are non-polar or low polarity plastics, such as most of the Olefin Plastics in general plastics, such as PE, PP, PS and so on. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss of this kind of material are low, the resistivity is high, and it is not affected by the external frequency, temperature and humidity. The second category is very large material, such as nylon, plasticizer PVC and phenolic molding. Their dielectric and dielectric loss are much larger than those of the first class, and their resistivity is lower. The third kind of material is between one or two kinds, the dielectric constant is 3~5, the tan delta is between 10-3 and 10-2, and the resistance is between 1014~1016 ohms. These materials have organic glass (polymethyl methacrylate), polycarbonate, PBT, polyimide and so on.
It is worth noting that the second and third types of plastics are influenced greatly by the external frequency, temperature and humidity. But for low voltage electrical appliances, plastic, generally plastic can be qualified for low voltage electrical appliances to material insulation requirements. In contrast, its mechanical properties, thermal performance, flame retardancy, processing performance, environmental protection, cost performance and service life are more important. Although PC, PA and PBT belong to second, third kinds of materials, but because of their excellent mechanical properties, thermal properties and processability, they are selected as the first choice of plastic materials in the field of low voltage electrical apparatus.
The most common PA varieties are mainly PA6 and PA66. PA6 has excellent comprehensive properties: good toughness, good performance stability, oil resistance, organic solvent resistance, chemical resistance, processing performance and excellent appearance performance. But there are also shortcomings in PA6. It is restricted by its low melting point, and its temperature resistance is limited. Secondly, the larger water absorption leads to the change of material size, and the material becomes soft. The insulation property of the material decreases, and the surface resistivity decreases from 1014 NaN to 1012~1013 ohm NaN. Compared with PA6 products, PA66 has higher mechanical strength and thermal deformation temperature. PA66 has provided a great convenience for product design, and the use environment has also been relaxed. In addition to small circuit breakers, leakage protectors and contactors, the material can also be used for micro switch, coil framework and other products.
PBT is an engineering plastics that only uses nylon in electronic and electrical products. It has the characteristics of good dimensional stability, good temperature resistance, excellent electrical insulation and weather resistance. It also has the characteristics of heat resistance, low warpage and easy molding. Such products are mainly used for contactor base, coil skeleton, fuse box, electronic connector, miniature circuit breaker and leakage protection switch's internal parts, and can meet different color needs.
